Fred & Joel Welser

Owners of CollegeSportsMadness.com

Father and son team, Fred and Joel Welser, turned a passion for sports into a family business with the creation of CollegeSportsMadness.com five years ago. Joel serves as Head Writer and Editor of the college sports website, which is often referred to as The Madness, while Fred handles business operations.

In addition to the articles and content Joel writes, The Madness also relies on volunteer writers who provide articles and other input for the site based on their area of sports expertise. Other family members pitch in as needed, too.

The Madness covers Division 1 college FCS football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, and softball. Site content focuses on pre-season team previews and post-season team info, as well as projected post-season tournament brackets. During the regular season, The Madness identifies players of the week for each conference and provides a top 25 ranking.

The primary revenue source for the site is through advertising. There are also some additional sources through affiliate programs and guest posts.
The Welser family knows that careful planning, practice, and patience are keys to winning at sports and financial planning.

Fred and his wife Sandy became acquainted with The Wiser Financial Group a number of years ago when Sandy’s employer—a financial planner—joined Wiser. The couple moved their investments to Wiser as well.

Sandy continued to work for the planner at Wiser part-time until her retirement in May 2016.

"We have been very happy working with the Wiser group," Fred said. "They are always looking out for our best interests and helping us to achieve the goals that we have set."

Residents of Kalamazoo since the early 1980s, Fred and Sandy raised Joel here and are happy to have him back in the City after spending his college years in California.

As one of southwest Michigan's oldest and largest independent financial services organizations, The Wiser Financial Group is both highly skilled and trusted in the community—often serving families for generations. The professionals at WFG have decades of experience in financial planning. Our team includes Certified Financial Planners® (CFP®), Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultants (ChFC), Certified Public Accountants (CPA), attorneys, and financial advisors.
