John Lacko

Professional Photographer

Meet professional photographer John Lacko of Kalamazoo. John and his wife of 45 years, Nancy, are clients of Rob Campbell. The rest of the family includes a son, Michael, daughter-in-law Nicole, and five grandchildren.

John's interest in automobiles led him to photography. In 1965, a friend suggested that they become the track photographers at Martin US-131 Dragway. His friend taught him photography and John shot the races while the friend sold the prints.

From 1967-1970, John was a photojournalist at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. In his off time, he photographed auto racing at Riverside, Laguna Seca, and other tracks.

John earned an MA in Instructional Media from WMU in 1974. He was the Assistant Director for Instructional Support Services at Cleveland State University from 1974 to 1979. In 1979, John joined Centre One Conference Centers in Eastlake, Ohio.

In 1981 John returned to Kalamazoo to join his family business, Food Processing Equipment Company, as Vice President of Sales.

In 1984, John initiated the Kalamazoo Documentary Photography project for the Kalamazoo Public Museum. The project involved 20+ local volunteer photographers documenting life in Kalamazoo from April to August. The project was repeated in 1990, 2000, and 2011.

In 1993, John started photographing for the Kalamazoo Gazette and other clients. John maintains an active client base with corporate, educational, and publication clients. For more information about John and his photography visit: www.lackophoto.com
